The National Security Service announced the arrest of (28) blackmailers in 9 governorates , and the agency said in a statement that “based on a complaint received by the National Security Service, our detachments in Basra Governorate were able to thwart an electronic blackmail operation and arrest the accused .”
He added, “The accused bargained with a man for an amount of (10) million dinars in exchange for not publishing personal photos of his family on social networking sites,” noting that “the detachments were able to lure the accused into an ambush and overthrew him while he received an amount of (750) thousand dinars as an initial payment .”
He pointed out, “The agency followed up on complaints received via the free hotline (131) and the e-mail info@inss.gov.iq and was able to arrest (27) blackmailers in (Kirkuk, Nineveh, Basra, Baghdad, Wasit, Holy Karbala, and Muthanna. (Babil, and Anbar),” noting that “the accused were referred to the competent judicial authorities to receive their just punishment in accordance with the law.”
