The Federal Integrity Commission announced yesterday , Wednesday, that it was able to arrest 5 suspects in the Mosul Municipality and Nineveh Water Directorates, for committing a violation of their job duties, and requesting a bribe in exchange for carrying out the tasks assigned to them .

The Commission stated in a statement that “a team composed of the Commission’s Investigation Directorate in Nineveh Governorate was able to arrest the Director of Mosul Municipality and the officials of the Encroachments Department for allowing encroachment on lands belonging to the municipality and not taking legal action against them .”

 She explained that “the team was able to arrest the accused after moving to Al-Samah neighborhood in Mosul and completing the investigation and verification operations and verifying the accuracy of the information, about the Mosul Municipality employees, in coordination with some contractors, giving the numbers of plots of land belonging to the Municipality Directorate; for the purpose of encroachment and building on them and selling them to citizens; in exchange for sums of money, noting that one of the encroachers on the lands was arrested in the same operation .”

She added, “The team, in a separate operation, and based on a complaint filed by a citizen, proceeded to set up a tight ambush for an employee working in the Nineveh Water Directorate, and caught him red-handed, with a bribe amounting to (1,250,000) one million dinars in his possession; in exchange for collecting the amount of water fees due on one of the car washing and lubrication garages amounting to (6,644,000) six million dinars, as the accused manipulated the value of the fees; so that the amount became (644,000) six hundred thousand dinars, and the collection receipt issued by the Nineveh Water Directorate was seized .”

She noted that “two official reports were prepared for the two operations, and they were presented, along with the accused and the seized exhibits, before the judge of the Nineveh Court, which is specialized in examining integrity cases, who decided to detain the accused in the first case in accordance with the provisions of Article (331) of the Iraqi Penal Code,” adding: “As for the accused in the second operation, he was detained in accordance with the provisions of Resolution (160 of 1983).”
