The General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces confirmed yesterday , Saturday, that Israel used the US military airspace in Iraq to launch its strikes on Iranian territory .
The Communications Center of the General Staff of the Armed Forces said in a statement on Iranian state television: “We inform the honorable and brave Iranian people that the hostile Zionist aircraft, in a clear aggression and in violation of international laws, used the airspace provided by the terrorist American army in Iraq, early this morning, Saturday, to launch several long-range missiles launched from the air from a distance of one hundred kilometers from the Iranian border .”
“These missiles are equipped with very light warheads, about one-fifth the size of an Iranian ballistic missile warhead, and were directed at some border radars in the provinces of Ilam and Khuzestan and the vicinity of Tehran province,” she said, adding that “thanks to the timely intervention of the country’s air defense, the damage was reduced and limited, as some radar systems were damaged, some of which were repaired immediately, while others are currently being repaired .”
She explained that “this illegal and unlawful act enabled the country’s air defense to track and intercept a large number of missiles and prevent enemy aircraft from entering the country’s airspace .”
The Authority stressed in its statement that “Iran reserves the right to respond legally and legitimately at the appropriate time, to the necessity of establishing a permanent truce in Gaza and Lebanon to prevent the killing of innocents and the oppressed .”
She continued: “The terrorist and criminal US government, which plays a pivotal role in supporting and endorsing the criminal acts of the Zionist regime in destabilizing the security of the region, is warned against controlling this illegal and illegitimate regime, and avoiding getting more involved in the quagmire created by this occupying regime, in order to prevent the escalation of the conflict and insecurity in the region and the killing of innocent people, especially in Gaza and Lebanon .”
Israel announced a three-wave attack on Iran, targeting missile factories and military facilities in response to previous Iranian attacks .
Iran announced that the Israeli attacks on it caused “limited damage” to some sites, and indicated that the Israeli strikes targeted military bases in the provinces of Ilam, Khuzestan and Tehran .
The Israeli strikes came after Iran fired more than 180 missiles at three Israeli bases, in response to the assassination of Iranian and Hamas leaders.
