An Iraqi official said on Saturday that the country’s oil production fell to 3.94 million barrels per day in September, below its OPEC+ quota of about four million, as Baghdad seeks to boost its commitment to the production target, according to Reuters .
The production figure given by the official, who asked not to be named, contradicts the results of a Reuters survey on Oct. 3, which found that Iraq pumped 90,000 bpd more than its quota in September .
When asked about the survey results, the official said production was below quota due to lower exports, local consumption and Kurdistan Region production .
A source told Reuters last month that Iraq intends to reduce its oil production to between 3.85 and 3.9 million barrels per day in September as part of a plan to compensate for production exceeding its quota .
Since the Kurdistan Region’s oil exports stopped on 3/24/2023, the Federal Ministry of Oil has compensated for the region’s oil, amounting to 400,000 barrels, from the southern governorates, to maintain the OPEC oil export ceiling.
