Iraqi Minister of Communications Hiyam Al-Yasiri said on Tuesday that the selection of the international company “Vodafone” to operate the national mobile phone license project came because of its extensive experience in fifth generation technology .

Al-Yasiri added in a press statement, “The ministry will inform the company of the decision to begin negotiations with it in order to sign a memorandum of understanding and a statement of work that includes details of the preliminary and necessary preparations required to begin implementing the project .”

The Minister of Communications pointed out that “Vodafone was chosen for many reasons, including its global brand, its experience in fifth-generation technology, and its wide spread in countries around the world and the Middle East .”

Al-Yasiri added that “Vodafone serves 330 million subscribers in 15 countries, and that it has expressed its readiness to work in Iraq to make the project, which will be owned by the state, a success. It aims to provide the best services to the citizen and maximize financial revenues, keep pace with technological development, in addition to employing youth energies .”

Earlier on Tuesday, the Iraqi Council of Ministers approved the selection of Vodafone International Telecommunications Company as the operator of the national mobile phone license project with fifth-generation technology.
