The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Public Municipalities announced more than 70 new projects outside the capital, Baghdad, during the coming year .

Ministry spokesman Nabil Al-Saffar said: “The Roads and Bridges Department continues to work on more than 70 projects outside the capital Baghdad in addition to projects to relieve traffic congestion in Baghdad,” indicating that “the most important of these projects is the road linking Baghdad to Kirkuk, which is about 400 km long, and sections of which 46 km long have been opened in Kirkuk Governorate, as well as another section in Diyala Governorate, which is the Khalis-Azim Road, the second section of which is 25 km long. Work is still underway in Kirkuk Governorate on a section of it that is 162 km long and two other sections of it in Diyala, one of which is 110 km long and the other is 64 km long, and it is hoped that they will be completed during the coming year .”

Al-Saffar added, “Work is also underway on one of the most important projects at the country level, which is the Hamrin Bridge construction project in Diyala Governorate, which is considered the longest bridge at 7 km long, in addition to rehabilitating the Muqdadiyah-Saadiyah public road within the Hamrin Lake Basin, which will be completed at the end of 2025. “

He added that “there are also new projects that have been referred in many governorates, most notably the rehabilitation of the expressway (Baghdad-Abu Ghraib), as well as linking the holy city of Karbala to the expressway, the widening project (Al-Kifl-Najaf), and the Balad intersection bridges in Salah al-Din Governorate on the Baghdad-Mosul road, in addition to the Diwaniyah-Hillah road project, the first phase,” noting “the preparation of studies and technical feasibility for the construction of the Amara-Kut-Baghdad-Kirkuk road and other projects extending along the roads linking the governorates .”
