MBN CEO Jeffrey Godman announced yesterday , Monday, the merger of the main Alhurra TV channel and Alhurra Iraq channel, and the layoff of 160 employees .

“Together, we will build a company culture of continuous learning where every manager becomes a mentor, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between us, and that every employee has the opportunity to grow,” Gadamen said in a message. “ MBN will become an incubator and a beacon for talent development .”

“It’s a sad day,” he added. “Today we said goodbye to 160 colleagues and reduced our staff by 21 percent.

“As I’ve told you over the past few weeks, the changes we’re making have been forced upon us by circumstances,” Gedman continued. “The budget cuts passed by the Senate have required us to reduce our expenses by about $20 million. As you’ve heard, salaries and employee benefits account for more than 70 percent of our expenses .”

“All departments of the company have been reviewed without exception. For example, by getting rid of traditional offices, we are following a common professional approach, and we will no longer have to pay rent, bills, security and cleaning costs, and the legal, administrative and tax fees that follow. By renegotiating with the company we use for simultaneous translation, we will reduce expenses to match our new financial reality. We have saved even the most basic expenses, and we have also eliminated the marketing budget,” he explained.
