Minister of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities Ahmed Fakak Al-Badrani announced the resumption of work on the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the Mosul Civilization Museum.

Al-Badrani explained in press statements that the maintenance and restoration work is supported by the World Monuments Fund and that all the archaeological pieces in the National Museum in Baghdad that pertain to Nineveh will be returned to their original location in the Mosul Museum after the completion of the reconstruction.

The museum is the second most important and largest museum in Iraq after the Iraqi Museum in Baghdad, and contains antiquities from prehistoric and Assyrian eras, antiquities from the city of Hatra, and antiquities from the Islamic civilization of Mosul. In 2014, it was destroyed, burned, and looted by the terrorist organization ISIS.
