Minister of Electricity, Ziad Ali Fadel, confirmed on Sunday that energy consumption bills exceeding 150 thousand dinars will be reviewed and audited .

The Minister’s media office stated that the latter held an expanded meeting in the Basra Distribution Department to follow up on the recommendations of the investigative committee that was formed last month in the wake of citizens’ complaints about the high bill amounts .

The statement indicated that the Minister issued a package of decisions that included returning to the system of issuing invoices every two months, with any invoice exceeding 150 thousand dinars being subject to review and audit, stressing that there would be no increase in the prices of supplying electrical energy .

He stressed that “the government’s policy is based on supporting the citizen, as government support for residential areas reaches 75%,” indicating that the state is responsible for supporting 75% of the actual value of electricity consumption .

He stressed that “the state does not seek to make profits from citizens, but is committed to providing them with distinguished services in exchange for paying subsidized costs, which ensures the sustainability of electricity services with high efficiency.”
