Last Thursday, Interior Minister Abdul Amir Al-Shammari announced that the administrative borders of Nineveh Governorate are 100 % secure , while indicating the ministry’s readiness to take over the security file in the governorate .

Al-Shammari said in his speech during a press conference in Nineveh Governorate, “Today we discussed with the local government in Nineveh Governorate several files, including transferring security responsibility in city centers to the Nineveh Police Command. Work is underway and ongoing to complete the final preparations that include installing cameras in city centers as well as activating the local police and emergency services to ensure security in Nineveh,” indicating that “Nineveh Governorate during the current year was stable in terms of security, as it was the governorate with the fewest accidents and criminal offenses .”

He added that “the governorate is ready to take over full security responsibility, while the open areas outside the cities will remain the responsibility of the holding units of the army and the Popular Mobilization Forces, as this matter has been fully discussed and during the coming period will witness the transfer of responsibility .”

Regarding the issuance of the national card, Al-Shammari explained that “Nineveh was late in issuing the national card for the people of the province, so today we will open the central registration system in Nineveh to be the first province to do so,” noting that “the system allows all those present in the province to complete their transactions quickly without going to other areas that may be far from the center of Mosul .”

He continued: “We also discussed supporting the police leadership and the high coordination between the security services with the governorate and making Nineveh an attractive city for investments .”

He continued, “The border file within the borders of Nineveh Governorate is one of the most important areas, as it witnesses high security, as we have reinforced the area with several obstacles, including the eastern trench, barbed wire, and the BRC wall,” stressing that “the administrative borders of Nineveh are completely surrounded by a concrete wall with a camera system, radar, and optical communications line, as these fortifications have secured the borders 100 percent, in addition to the role of the Border Forces Command, and there is ongoing work with support from the army forces, and there is no concern about border security in the governorate .”

He added: “We supported Sinjar district by involving its people in the local police and forming emergency brigades from the Yazidi community. We also supported it by forming 3 emergency brigades in addition to opening police stations and a directorate for western Nineveh in addition to the presence of army units .”
