The Ministry of Defense announced yesterday , Saturday, that an expanded security meeting was held, headed by the Minister of Defense, with the Operations Commander and the brigade commanders, to discuss the latest developments taking place on the Syrian scene and their repercussions on Iraq .
The ministry said in a statement: “Defense Minister Thabet Mohammed Saeed Al-Abbasi, accompanied by the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army for Operations and the Commander of the Land Forces, arrived at the Western Nineveh Operations Sector in Sinjar, and were received by the Operations Commander and the brigade commanders .”
The statement added, “Upon the Minister’s arrival, he held an expanded meeting with the Operations Commander and the brigade commanders, during which the latest developments on the Syrian scene and their repercussions on Iraq were discussed, as well as the security preparations for securing the borders to prevent the infiltration of terrorists and armed groups into Iraqi territory .”
He continued, “The Minister conducted an aerial reconnaissance tour of the border strip between Iraq and Syria, during which he was briefed on the measures taken by the Iraqi forces to secure the border.”
