Nineveh Provincial Council member Abdullah Al-Nujaifi revealed that meetings of the committee concerned with the file of preventing construction on lands surrounding Mosul by influential parties have begun .

Al-Nujaifi said: “The committee formed to follow up on the ban on construction within the borders of Mosul Municipality, which amounts to more than 9,000 pieces belonging to martyrs, wounded and employees, held its first meeting today, Monday, inside the Nineveh Provincial Council, in the presence of the Director of Mosul Municipality, the Director of Real Estate Registration and other departments .”

Al-Nujaifi added: “The committee continues to hold meetings and will give recommendations in the coming period,” indicating that “the committee is trying to reach actual results that will end the problem of preventing construction on lands located around Mosul .”

Earlier, the Director of Mosul Municipality, Abdul Sattar Al-Habou, confirmed that “the lands whose owners are demanding to build on are located within the borders of Mosul Municipality and do not pose any threat to changing the demographics of the Nineveh Plain areas near Mosul . ”

Last week, the Nineveh Council formed a committee to follow up on the issue of these lands and resolve them through legal means, ensuring that their owners are allowed to exploit them while ensuring that they do not cause demographic change in the Nineveh Plain .

On December 22, the committee formed in the Nineveh Provincial Council began investigating the ban on construction on thousands of lands on the eastern outskirts of Mosul .

A source in the Nineveh Council said, “The committee formed by the council in the session held last Tuesday began collecting information about residential lands whose owners were prevented from building on them by order of armed factions in Nineveh Governorate spread east of Mosul and the Nineveh Plain .”

Nineveh Provincial Council member Muhannad Najm al-Jubouri confirmed that “armed factions known to the state and citizens in Nineveh are preventing construction on thousands of lands owned by the people of Mosul and located within the city’s borders, the Mosul Municipality .”

Al-Jubouri said in an interview: “This issue will be presented to the Prime Minister during his upcoming visit to Mosul,” stressing that the issue does not fall within the Shabak’s concerns about demographic change and that the legal right is clear and explicit in this regard .”

Al-Jubouri pointed out that “there are powerful armed groups that impose fees on citizens in exchange for allowing them to build in some areas on the outskirts of Mosul .”

The Nineveh Council announced the formation of a special committee to follow up on the land file in Mosul, headed by Abdullah al-Nujaifi .

Al-Nujaifi said in a press conference: “The committee will be fair to everyone, will work and will issue its recommendations within a specific period,” stressing that “there is no political or military body higher than the state.”
