A member of the Nineveh Provincial Council revealed, on Monday evening , that there is a serious move to question Governor Abdul Qader Al-Dakhil, in preparation for his dismissal, in a move driven by political differences .
The council member, who preferred not to be named for “sensitive reasons,” said, “A closed meeting was held in the Nineveh Council in the presence of Governor Abdul Qader Al-Dakhil and Council Chairman Ahmed Al-Hasoud. During the meeting, the governor was informed of the need to issue administrative orders to the heads of administrative units, otherwise he would face an interrogation that could lead to his dismissal .”
The member added that the decision came with the support of the leaders of the political blocs in Baghdad, who control the council members from their blocs, explaining that “the members who informed the governor are part of the Coordination Framework alliances in the Nineveh Council against the backdrop of the political problems and disputes that accompanied the voting process on a number of heads of administrative units, in addition to some members of the Nineveh Council boycotting the sessions at the time .”
The Nineveh Provincial Council had previously witnessed a boycott by the “United Nineveh” bloc and the Kurdistan Democratic Party for about 3 months, before the two blocs returned to the council in mid-September, against the backdrop of the council’s vote on the appointment and replacement of officials of the administrative units .
In July 2024, the Nineveh Provincial Council voted to make changes to the positions of heads of administrative units in the province, which was carried out by the Nineveh Future Alliance (16 seats), which includes the Coordination Framework alliances, with the boycott of the United Nineveh Alliance (9 seats) and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (4 seats) .
The Kurdistan Democratic Party in the Nineveh Council considered what happened as “circumvention of the law and political consensus.”
