Nineveh Provincial Council held its first session after a boycott and disruption of the council’s work that lasted for about 3 months due to the vote on the heads of administrative units.

The session comes after the United Nineveh and Kurdistan Democratic Party blocs ended their boycott of the sessions after a decision to boycott following the political crisis witnessed by the council. Despite the United Nineveh and Democratic blocs entering today’s session, members of the two blocs confirmed that the differences are still ongoing and have not been resolved regarding the issue of administrative units.

According to the United Nineveh and Democratic blocs, attendance at today’s session does not mean acceptance of what happened previously regarding the Nineveh Future’s monopoly on the decision of the administrative units. They explained that participation came in order to vote on social benefits because they are in the interest of Nineveh and cannot be postponed, and to vote on the formation of the audit committee for the mukhtars in order to vote on them.

Earlier, the deputy of the Nineveh Provincial Council, Mohammed Abdullah Al-Jubouri, confirmed that many initiatives were launched and dialogues were held to resolve the crisis that struck the council over the election and appointment of heads of administrative units, indicating that the issue was not resolved despite those meetings, while calling for the application of the law in dealing with members who are absent from sessions in order to reconvene the sessions and pass important decisions related to projects, the issue of mukhtars, financial dues and services.
