Nineveh Provincial Council voted yesterday , Wednesday, to select a thousand mukhtars in the province’s regions and villages .

The deputy head of the council, Mohammed Abdullah Al-Jubouri, said, “The Nineveh Council voted to appoint a thousand mukhtars for the regions and villages in 9 main districts in Nineveh, most notably Mosul .”

He added, “The appointment of the chosen ones requires the governor’s approval of the names voted on by the council .”

Al-Jubouri also pointed out that “the voting on the mukhtars in Alqosh district, affiliated with Tel Keppe district, has been postponed to other sessions until the names of the mukhtars are decided .”

He explained that “the voting on the names of the elected officials in some areas and villages has been postponed, and it is expected to be passed during the next session of the council.”
