The representative of Nineveh Governorate, Basma Basim, announced the release of her husband, who held the position of Assistant Governor for Planning Affairs, after completing his sentence .

“My husband, the former assistant governor of Nineveh for planning affairs, Raad Al-Abbasi, was released after serving his two-year sentence, ” Basim said.

Bassem posted on her personal page a recent photo of them together immediately after Al-Abbasi’s release and commented on it, “Thank you to everyone who supported, asked, and shared those years with us. May God not bring them back with a position or a word .”

It is noteworthy that a year in prison is calculated as nine months, not 12 months, and thus Al-Abbasi spent 18 months in prison .

A security source in Nineveh had explained on June 7, 2022, that “the Falcons Intelligence Cell arrested the Nineveh Governor’s Assistant for Planning Affairs, Raad Al-Abbasi, according to judicial arrest warrants .” He explained that “the charge against Al-Abassi is financial corruption .”

On June 16, 2022, a security source in Nineveh reported that the Integrity Commission had issued an order to summon the Nineveh Deputy Governor for Planning Affairs, Raad Al-Abbasi, to investigate a charge against him. The source refused to disclose the details of the case or the charge because the investigation into it is still unknown .

The source also indicated that Al-Abbasi appeared before the integrity judge and gave his testimony.
