Member of Parliament for Nineveh, Rahima Al-Jubouri, confirmed the existence of suspicions of corruption in the security services in the province and the exploitation of positions therein for political purposes .
Al-Jubouri said “The reason for the fall of Nineveh province in 2014 was corruption, and despite this, today we have identified suspicions of corruption in one of the security directorates .”
She stressed her rejection of what she described as “tampering with the security of Nineveh Governorate,” indicating that “several complaints have been received indicating that there are compromises by weak-willed people in the security services .”
The MP called on the Integrity Commission to “open investigative councils into corruption files, uncover assets, and activate the law (Where did you get this from) without any political interference or pressure .”
Member of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee, Nayef Al-Shammari, had previously revealed suspicions of corruption in one of the security departments in Nineveh Governorate .
Al-Shammari, a representative of Nineveh, said at the time, “While we were among the people of Nineveh, we identified administrative corruption in one of the security departments in the province,” stressing that an official position would be taken and a detailed report would be submitted to the relevant authorities, without specifying the security agency suspected of involvement in the corruption .
Security positions are witnessing a major political struggle to acquire them, and high-ranking security positions, especially at the level of undersecretaries of ministries, and even field officials, are often subject to the “quota” system, and are distributed according to the weight of the political blocs.
