reported on Monday that the operations to secure the Mosul Dam and enhance security protection around it are continuing, as part of a strict plan to protect vital facilities in the province.
The source said, “The commander of Nineveh operations, Major General Taha Askar Mazloum, accompanied by the commander of the 16th Division and the command staff officers, conducted an inspection tour of the Mosul Dam to follow up on the security measures taken at the points assigned to protect it.”
He added that “Mazloum stressed the importance of taking the utmost caution and preventing anyone who does not work in it from approaching the dam, to ensure the safety of the dam and the gates,” indicating that “Mazloum held a meeting with field commanders and issued directives to ensure the fortification of security points and enhance intelligence procedures.”
According to the source, emphasis was placed on treating citizens well and providing all necessary logistical services to raise the morale of fighters in the region.
The source stressed that “these measures come within the framework of enhancing security stability in Nineveh and ensuring the safety of vital facilities there.”
Mosul Dam, the largest dam in Iraq and the fourth largest in the Middle East, was built in 1986 on the Tigris River. It suffers from geological problems that require continuous maintenance to avoid its collapse, which poses a threat to major cities such as Mosul and Baghdad.
