The Nineveh Statistics Directorate announced that it has begun conducting a census of the nomadic Bedouin category in the governorate, as part of the 2024 general population and housing census, while confirming that the census will be conducted using technological techniques and that there is no political purpose in it .
The director of the directorate affiliated with the Central Statistical Organization, Nofal Suleiman, said, “We have completed most of the tasks assigned to us in preparation for the 2024 general population and housing census, from preparing enumerators and entering them into courses, and the trial count was evidence of the readiness and preparedness of the Nineveh census and continuous communication with the relevant authorities .”
Suleiman added that “modern technology will be used in the census process, which begins on November 15 and continues until the census days of November 20 and 21, when there will be a curfew. We have begun counting nomads in Nineveh Governorate since last week to collect accurate data on this category of the population, which is mobile by nature .”
He noted that “there is no political purpose behind the census, as evidenced by the cancellation of the nationality field. This census will include the camps because the law requires that any Iraqi in any place be included in the data, as the census is a national and family record. Also, no census can exceed any house, as its movement is subject to the monitoring system .”
