Yesterday , Saturday, 50 representatives signed a list calling on the federal government to establish a “fair and comprehensive” salary scale for all Iraqi state employees .

These representatives called for “achieving justice and equality among employees and reducing the differences in salaries” between the lower and higher grades .

Thousands of employees have been demonstrating in large numbers over the past period, heading to the fortified Green Zone in central Baghdad, demanding an adjustment in the salary scale in light of the high annual inflation rate in the country .

The Parliamentary Finance Committee revealed at the end of 2022 that the Federal Service Law will regulate the employee’s grades and job ladder, while indicating that the government is studying unifying the salary scale after withdrawing the law .

Committee member Moeen Al-Kazemi said at the time that “the government decided to withdraw the draft of the Federal Civil Service Law from the House of Representatives to reorganize and study it according to the government’s vision and ministerial approach,” noting that it “is studying the unification of the salary scale for employees after withdrawing the legal version .”

Al-Kadhimi added that “the law includes the organization of job grades, job progression, unification of the salary scale, and everything that serves the employee,” indicating that “the law replaces the articles of previous laws with a unified law, to organize the salary scale while raising the employee’s basic salary .”

Al-Kadhimi added, “After withdrawing the draft law from the House of Representatives, we are waiting for the government to send a new version of the law with a salary scale schedule.”
