He pointed out that “the committee will host officials from the Hajj Authority next week, and if it is proven that there was negligence and manipulation in the results of the lottery, a decision will be made to repeat the Hajj lottery under the supervision of the House of Representatives and announce the results directly to the public .”
Only a few days have passed since the announcement of the results of the Hajj lottery in a number of Iraqi provinces, the last of which was witnessed in the capital, Baghdad, on Saturday. This announcement was quickly accompanied by a wave of controversy over its results .
The representative of the Coordination Framework, Ibtisam Al-Hilali, said: “There are many comments and doubts among members of the House of Representatives regarding the Hajj lottery announced by the Hajj and Umrah Authority .”
Al-Hilali added: “We will collect signatures and submit a request to the acting Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, to host the head of the Hajj and Umrah Authority, Sami Al-Masoudi, regarding the violations that accompanied the Hajj lottery .”
She said, “The lists that were announced differ from the percentage announced by the Hajj Authority. There are five or six names from one family, and there are also hundreds of names of those under the age of 25. At the same time, the names of the elderly, those over 70 years of age, did not appear, and those whose names appeared were very few .”
Al-Hilali continued: “We will ask the Speaker of the House of Representatives to form a special parliamentary committee to re-conduct the Hajj lottery, under its supervision and under the eyes of everyone and public opinion .”
Earlier on Saturday, the Hajj and Umrah Authority announced the start of the Hajj lottery for Baghdad Governorate for the next three years, explaining that the number of seats being competed for is 3,216 seats for the year 2025, 6,508 seats for the year 2026, and 6,508 seats for the year 2027.
