The Finance Committee of the Iraqi Council of Representatives submitted a proposal to the Parliament Presidency to amend the Unified Retirement Law to raise the retirement age from 60 to 63 years .

The committee submitted a letter to the Presidency of the House of Representatives, stating, “Based on the provisions of Article (60/Second) of the Constitution and Article ( 87/ First) of the House of Representatives’ Internal Regulations No. (1) of 2022, please include the proposed second amendment law to the Unified Retirement Law No. ( 9) of 2014 (amended) on the House of Representatives’ agenda to present it for the first reading in accordance with the approved procedural procedures .”

In its previous session, in 2019, the House of Representatives voted to amend the retirement law, especially the paragraph related to reducing the retirement age from 63 to 60 years, which sparked widespread controversy among a segment of employees in government departments.
