The surprise Ukrainian attack on Russia’s Kursk region sparked angry reactions in Moscow, as evidenced by statements by former Russian President and Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev .

Medvedev confirmed that Russian tanks are able to reach the courtyard of the Reichstag building in Berlin (the capital of Germany), in response to the appearance of German armored vehicles among the Ukrainian units in Kursk .

Medvedev described an article in the German newspaper “Bild”, which talked about the return of German tanks to Russian territory after 80 years, as “revenge .”

Dmitry Anatolyevich works Medvedev has served as Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council since 2020. Before that, he was the tenth Prime Minister of Russia for the period from 2012 to 2020. He also previously served as the third President of Russia, from 2008 to 2012 .

Moscow said that Ukraine launched an attack with armored vehicles on the Kursk region in southern Russia, but the army responded to the attack, and the governor of the region described the situation on the border as “under control .”

Alexei Smirnov , the interim governor of the Kursk region, said last Tuesday that 5 people were killed, including 2 ambulance crew, and at least 20 people were injured in the fighting. A senior human rights official said that 6 children were among the wounded .

Earlier this year, forces describing themselves as volunteer paramilitary forces fighting alongside Ukraine carried out a major incursion into parts of the Belgorod and Kursk regions. The purpose of these attacks, which cause minor damage, remains unclear .
