Abdul Hussein Al-Hanin, the former advisor to the Iraqi Prime Minister for energy affairs, revealed yesterday , Wednesday, that the Saudi authorities have detained 21 Iraqi citizens because of a post related to the late Secretary-General of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, who was assassinated in an Israeli bombing that targeted the southern suburb .
Al-Hanin wrote on his Facebook page, “Citizen Hussein Haidar Abdul-Sada Al-Jamali, from the people of Diwaniyah, has been detained in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia along with 20 others since Saturday, September 29, due to a post on Facebook related to the martyrdom of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah .”
He added, “We contacted our ambassador and some government parties, but there is no sign of any step to release them .”
Al-Hanin continued, “We still have to put this matter before the Iraqi public opinion, perhaps Facebook has some validity and influence .”
He stressed that “the issue requires the personal intervention of the Prime Minister,” explaining that “the heads of major countries monitor their citizens even if they are criminals, so why the fear or shame of defending an innocent citizen?”
