A security source in Nineveh Governorate reported on Tuesday that the completion rate of concrete barriers on the Iraqi-Syrian border within the governorate’s borders has reached 80%.

The source explained in a statement to “Mosul Time” radio that the work is focused on securing the borders from the western side of Nineveh and the northwestern side of Nineveh, reaching the Rabia border crossing, also known as Al-Yarubiyah.

The source confirmed that these barriers consist of three levels of security, including concrete barriers and barbed wire, in addition to other security measures to enhance protection along the border. He also indicated that work is continuing at an accelerated pace to fully secure the border and prevent any attempts at infiltration or illegal crossing.

These measures come within the framework of strengthening security measures on the border with Syria after the escalation of events inside Syria during the past period. The Iraqi government has been working for some time to establish border barriers, as part of an expanded security plan aimed at limiting the infiltration of terrorists and militants across the border.

Official sources had previously indicated that these efforts come within the framework of joint security coordination between the Iraqi security forces and the relevant authorities to ensure the protection of the Iraqi borders and prevent any security threats coming from Syrian territory. The concrete barriers and barbed wire are part of these efforts to enhance control over the borders and achieve stability in the adjacent areas.
