A security source in Kirkuk Governorate revealed the overthrow of a network specialized in smuggling gold bullion south of the governorate .

confirmed that “a security force, along with investigators from the Federal Integrity Commission, Kirkuk Investigations Office, were able to set up an ambush for a group specializing in smuggling gold bullion through airports, and the team was able to arrest three of them .”

The source added that “the detainees are considered part of a network of gold bullion smugglers through Iraqi airports and checkpoints .”

He added, “They were arrested red-handed at a checkpoint near Taza Khurmatu district, south of Kirkuk, and they were transferred to a detention center .”

The day before yesterday, Tuesday, the Federal Integrity Commission announced the implementation of four arrest warrants issued against a number of defendants in the gold smuggling case through Baghdad International Airport .

On November 17, the Customs Police detachments of the Border Forces Command, in cooperation with the employees of the General Authority of Customs, were able to thwart an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of gold .

The Federal Integrity Commission reported, the day before yesterday, Sunday, that its Chairman, Mohammed Ali Al-Lami, directed the investigation into one of the major financial and administrative corruption cases related to gold smuggling .

It is worth noting that Article (14/First) of the Integrity and Illicit Gains Commission Law No. (30 of 2011) as amended states: “The investigating judge shall notify the legal department of the Commission when he begins the investigation into any corruption case, and shall inform it of the progress of the investigation therein upon its request .”

The same article stipulates in its third clause: “The investigating judge shall refer any corruption case that the Commission chooses to complete the investigation into to one of the Commission’s investigation department investigators or one of its office investigators .”
