Informed sources revealed yesterday, Saturday , that there is an arrest warrant issued by the Iraqi judiciary against “Ahmed Al-Sharaa”, known as “Abu Muhammad Al-Julani”, the leader of the Levant Liberation Front .
The sources said, “While Al-Sharaa was in Iraq and was in Al-Qaeda, he was arrested by the American side between 2007-2008, but after that he was released by the Americans themselves, and the Iraqi side had no connection, and no ruling was issued against him by the Iraqi judiciary at the time .”
The sources stated: “However, after detainees confessed to various terrorist charges against Al-Julani, a subsequent arrest warrant was issued against him years ago, without a judicial ruling .”
The day before yesterday, Thursday, the commander of the “Military Operations Department,” Ahmed al-Sharaa (Abu Muhammad al-Julani), denied that he had previously participated in the battles in Iraq when they deviated towards sectarianism, stressing that the “Hayat Tahrir al-Sham” organization that he leads has severed its relationship with the Al-Qaeda organization .
Al-Sharaa explained that he is currently working in accordance with the highest Syrian interests, adding: “We currently have no relationship with any external organizations or parties .”
It is noteworthy that “Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham”, which was previously known as Jabhat al-Nusra, announced its final separation from al-Qaeda in 2016. Since then, it has softened its policy and actions in Idlib, where it had the largest presence and the broadest authority .
It is noteworthy that the US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, Barbara Leaf, announced from Damascus on Friday evening the cancellation of the financial reward allocated to anyone who provides information that helps in arresting Ahmed al-Sharaa, the commander of the “Military Operations Department” in Syria .
Ahmed al-Sharaa, known as “Abu Muhammad al-Julani,” is the commander of military operations in the armed Syrian opposition that succeeded on December 8 in toppling the regime of Bashar al-Assad, after its armed forces entered Damascus and Assad fled to Russia, which granted him asylum with his family .
This came after a large-scale armed attack launched by the Syrian opposition factions, led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (classified as a terrorist organization and banned in Russia), targeting army positions in the provinces of Aleppo and Idlib. By the evening of December 7, the opposition had captured several major cities – Aleppo, Hama, Deir ez-Zor, Daraa and Homs .
On the morning of December 8, opposition forces entered the capital, Damascus, after Syrian army units withdrew from the city.
