Independent MP Luqman Al-Rashidi said yesterday , Saturday, that there are political disagreements over the “general amnesty and personal status amendment ” laws.
Al-Rashidi added, “There are disagreements and differences of opinion between some political blocs and members of the House of Representatives regarding the general amnesty and personal status laws .”
He pointed out that “objection to some articles of the Personal Status Amendment Law that affect the fabric of Iraqi society hinders its inclusion on the Parliament’s agenda .”
He pointed out that “there are also political differences over amending the general amnesty law, and parliamentary and popular fear that terrorists will be included in the amnesty .”
Today , Sunday, the Iraqi Council of Representatives is scheduled to begin the first reading of the amendment to the General Amnesty Law, according to what was stated in the session’s agenda published by the Council’s Media Department .
On Wednesday, July 24, 2024, the Iraqi Parliament postponed the first reading of the Personal Status Law proposal as a result of parliamentary disagreements over it, in addition to postponing the first reading of the amendment to the General Amnesty Law due to political disagreements over the amendment and objection to it, according to a parliamentary source who spoke to Shafaq News Agency .
