The representative of the Shiite coordination framework, Muhammad Al-Ziyadi, confirmed today The framework forces are exerting pressure on the Sunni forces to speed up the process of electing the President of the Iraqi Council of Representatives .

Al -Ziyadi said , “Political differences between the Sunni parties are delaying the election of the Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, so the coordination framework is putting pressure on these parties to speed up the resolution of the process of electing the new Speaker of the Council .”

He added, “The coordination framework was clear with the Sunni political parties, as if the dispute continues and is not resolved during the next few days, a new session will be held to elect the Speaker of Parliament, leaving the matter of voting to the representatives,” stressing that “this file cannot remain Unresolved all these months .”

In this context, the representative of the State of Law coalition within the framework, Firas Al-Muslimaoui, confirmed that there are serious dialogues between the political forces within the coordination framework and also between the other Sunni political blocs, pointing out at the same time that “no agreement has been reached about electing a specific candidate without Another for the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives .”

Al-Muslimaoui explained that if an agreement is reached between the Sunni forces regarding the mechanism for electing a candidate for the presidency of the Council, the coordination framework will support holding the session to elect the president as soon as possible. He added that “the Sunni component is still in ongoing dialogues and has not yet agreed on a specific candidate, and when Reaching an agreement there will be a session to elect the president .”

Earlier, the representative of the Azm Alliance (which is among the Sunni political forces), Raad Al-Dahkali , said that “the doors are closed” to any attempt to amend the nomination system for the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives, which has been stalled since the termination of Muhammad Al-Halbousi’s membership by a judicial decision .

Al-Dahlaki explained that “political pressure” is pushing towards holding a session to elect the Council’s president next week, noting that “the candidates are present” and there is no need for re-nomination .

He added that the “political atmosphere and pressure” would contribute to resolving the issue soon, considering that political differences had prevented the naming of a new president .

Since the Federal Supreme Court’s decision in November 2023 to terminate the membership of Muhammad al-Halbousi , the political forces have not been able to elect a new speaker of Parliament due to existing differences .

The coordination framework set July 20 as the date for resolving the Sunni dispute over the election of a new speaker of parliament, after which it will be left to the members of the council to choose the appropriate president .
