Nineveh Governor Abdul Qadir al-Dakhil sent a message to the international community and the federal government to work to heal the wounds of the Yazidi community against the backdrop of the crimes they were subjected to by ISIS. He also called for launching real initiatives to search for the kidnapped Yazidi men and women .
Al-Dakhil said during his speech while participating in the ceremony commemorating the tenth anniversary of the genocide of the people of the Yazidi village of Kojo: “Our message to the international community and the central government is to work towards healing the wounds of the children of the Yazidi component .”
Al-Dakhil added: “We should launch real initiatives to search for the kidnapped men and women, and compensate the affected people from the village of Kojo and other villages .”
The Governor of Nineveh pointed out that “the annihilation of the village of Kojo represents the largest massacre of all time and a disgrace to ISIS and those who supported it,” noting that “the Iraqi judiciary is the arbiter of retribution against terrorist criminals .”
He added, “We offer a message of reassurance to our Yazidi people and all components that what happened will not be repeated,” noting that the local government in Nineveh has the duty to provide the requirements for achieving a comfortable living and provide the best services to the members of the Yazidi community and all the people of Nineveh Governorate .
Al-Dakhil stressed that he would not allow some lurkers to try to tear apart the societal fabric and create hatred and strife between Muslims and Yazidis .
On August 15, 2014, ISIS fighters besieged the village of Kocho, southwest of Sinjar, killing hundreds of men and captivating women in one of the most heinous crimes committed in the modern era.
