The Minister of Electricity, Ziad Ali Fadel, directed the announcement and referral of the installation of solar energy systems in government buildings .

The media office of the Ministry of Electricity said in a statement that “in implementation of the directives of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, The Minister of Electricity chaired a pivotal technical meeting with the National Team for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Projects, to discuss the start of implementing projects to install solar energy systems in government buildings, amounting to (535) government buildings .

He added, “The meeting was attended by the Director General of the Department of Training and Energy Research, and the Director General of Planning and Studies, to participate in discussions on the announcement, referral, inclusion, necessary allocations, and implementation mechanisms .”

The Minister of Electricity pointed out – according to the statement – that “the ministry is aware and understands the government’s direction to focus on diversifying energy sources and adopting solar energy in government institutions,” stressing that “we discussed periodically and drew a clear roadmap to proceed with adopting it on the one hand as contracts to install solar energy production stations, and on the other hand by exploiting government buildings to install these systems to reduce pressure, burdens and electrical loads on the system .”

The statement explained that “the Minister of Electricity listened to what was presented by the national team formed and assigned by a royal order, to adopt the mechanisms for converting to solar energy for those institutions, while the Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Planning, and the Ministry of Finance allocated the inclusion of those projects, and allocated financial allocations for them that require transfers from the Training Department for the Distribution of Baghdad Electricity to facilitate the procedures for announcement, referral, and implementation.”
