Yesterday , Friday, the Ministry of Transport reviewed its completed projects in the railway sector under the services government headed by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, confirming the return of 12 lines to service and the creation of new lines .
The ministry’s spokesman, Maitham Al-Safi, said, “The Iraqi General Railway Company has rehabilitated and operated the railway lines that were out of service and is working to complete the operation of all lines in all governorates,” indicating that “the company has completed work on 12 railways to raise their efficiency according to international specifications after service was interrupted for several years, and has also created new lines under the government of services .”
He detailed the opened lines, saying: “The company opened the Qayyarah refinery railway line in Mosul to transport crude oil, after an interruption that lasted more than 20 years, as well as the (Baghdad-Fallujah) railway line for passengers after an interruption that lasted more than 5 years .”
He added, “The railway line (Shirqat Silo) was also opened in Mosul after an interruption of more than 30 years, as well as the opening of the double line linking Al-Musayyib to Al-Mahmoudiyah, with a length of 40 km, and the opening of the bridge in Al-Musayyib and the sector diversion with a length of 1500 meters and other bridges (Al-Yusufiyah Bridge, 32 km and Al-Latifiyah Bridge, 47 km) .”
He added, “The double line linking Al-Musayyib to Al-Mahmoudiyah, with a length of 40 km, was opened, and a bridge line was opened in Al-Musayyib and a sector diversion with a length of 1500 meters, as well as lines passing through the Al-Yusufiyah bridges with a length of 32 km and the Al-Latifiyah Bridge with a length of 47 km), as well as the opening of the Al-Haqlaniyah area sector with a length of 80 km after an interruption that lasted more than 8 years, within the (Baghdad/Al-Qaim/Akashat) railway line, while the Baghdad-Samarra line was opened with a length of 120 km, and the (Baghdad-Ramadi) line was opened,” noting that “the completion of the railway line of platform 27, which reaches the northern Umm Qasr port, linking the marine platforms, and the (Haditha-Al-Qaim) railway line by 100 %.
He added, “There are completed lines that will be opened in the coming days, including the (Dura-Masafi) railway line, with a 100% completion rate. The (Hijama-Sawa) project has been completed with a 100% completion rate. Meanwhile, the automatic arms and surveillance cameras project has been completed to regulate the movement of trains .”
The ministry confirmed: “Work is continuing at an increasing pace to complete the remaining projects and future plans of the Ministry of Transport, as a contract has been signed with the Spanish company Imathia Construction to build the Basra-Shalamcheh railway line, and work is continuing to remove conflicts with the route for the purpose of acquiring government and private lands, as mines have been removed 4 km wide by 50 km according to work requirements .”
He added, “The Ministry’s projects also included the opening of the Southern Region Building in Basra and the Northern Region Building in Mosul, and (12) locomotives were rehabilitated and put into service for the purpose of increasing the volume of goods transported in the company’s workshops.
