US Ambassador to Iraq Alina Romanowski warned of “frightening” reactions resulting from expanding the circle of conflict, noting that Baghdad does not want to be dragged into the circle of conflict .

Romansky said, “The United States of America and the Biden administration are committed to de-escalation in any form and by all possible means, because the results and reactions could be horrific, even frightening .”

She added, “This is why President Biden’s administration is working tirelessly until the last day of his administration to reduce escalation, reach sustainable solutions for a ceasefire and the release of the hostages, as well as deliver humanitarian aid as much as possible to Lebanon, Gaza, the West Bank, and all areas of conflict where positions are heated .”

She continued, “We are in a strong position to do so and our efforts are ongoing. We are trying and we stress that Iraq does not want to be dragged into the circle of conflict, neither the Iraqi government nor the Iraqi people want that. Therefore, we will spare no effort possible to achieve calm .”

The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs had previously sent official letters to the Security Council, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Arab League, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, in response to Israel’s threats to attack Iraq .

The Israeli threats came through Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, who held the Iraqi government responsible for “everything that happens on its territory,” stressing that Tel Aviv has the right to self-defense .

Iraqi armed factions are adopting missile and drone attacks on southern Israel, as part of what is known as the support battle with Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza.
