The Ministry of Electricity revealed, yesterday , Friday, that it has developed strategic solutions to raise the rate of energy supply in the country, and while it set a date for launching the second package of the smart transformation project, it confirmed that no collection fees will be collected for installing meters .

The spokesman for the Ministry of Electricity, Ahmed Moussa, said, “The ministry has implemented smart transformation mechanisms that it worked on as part of a first package; in order to implement a plan to control loads, maximize collection resources, reduce major violations of the electricity grid, and provide good hours of supply to citizens .”

He added, “There are contracts within this project that were signed in four governorates, namely (Diyala, Wasit, Anbar, and Kirkuk Governorate), and they have begun to proceed as planned and agreed upon .”

He pointed out that “network surveys were conducted and work was carried out to address bottlenecks, and now we are in the process of installing meters,” explaining that “the companies worked on mechanisms, which are installing meters, whether 33 feeders or 11 feeders, with the aim of calculating energy, and smart meters will be calculated for consumers of all types, whether industrial, commercial, agricultural or residential .”

He stressed that “the mechanism will not require citizens to pay any sums to install meters,” explaining that “there is cooperation from municipal councils, districts, sub-districts, and local governments in Diyala, Kirkuk, and Anbar, and an agreement was reached with Wasit Governorate that this project will operate with the smart transformation mechanism in selected areas .”

He continued, “The work of inventorying bottlenecks and the network rehabilitation mechanism has been completed for the second phase, and meters will be installed for consumers in the coming days after the feeders have been installed in the secondary stations,” noting that “the first package signed by the ministry in those governorates is for selected areas and elected areas, and within the first phase another package will be signed for other areas in Baghdad, Basra, Maysan Governorate, the governorates of the Middle Euphrates, Karbala and Najaf, and this is considered part of the first phase, which is 500,000 subscribers .”

He explained that “the ministry has begun preparing and referring the second phase of implementing the smart transformation mechanism to include other regions and governorates with a total of one million subscribers, which is an important step to control loads within the increased demand, which will be an important step to control losses, remove violations and regulate consumption even in agricultural and random areas, and then it will be a step to maximize collection resources and then work on projects to treat and rehabilitate the electrical network.”
