Iraqi parliamentary circles called for activating the government’s efforts to purchase air defense systems in order to stop the repeated violations of Iraqi air sovereignty.
Iraqi MPs called on the government to take action through its relations with countries around the world, such as the United States, France, Russia and China, in order to purchase these modern and advanced systems capable of detecting and dealing with modern aircraft and preventing them from penetrating Iraqi airspace. Other MPs accused countries, primarily the United States and Israel, of obstructing Iraq’s efforts to obtain these defenses.
Meanwhile, US Ambassador to Baghdad, Elena Romansky, denied that the United States had imposed control over Iraqi skies.
Romansky said during her hosting of a dialogue seminar on the sidelines of the Middle East Research Foundation Forum held in Erbil that America did not participate in Israel’s attack on Iran, adding that Iraq is a sovereign country, and we did not impose our control over its airspace.
The ambassador stressed her country’s position rejecting Iraq’s violation of US sanctions in importing energy from Iran.
