Yesterday , Monday, the Joint Operations Command investigated the existence of tons of highly explosive chemicals in Iraqi ports, or in other locations inside containers that threaten the safety of citizens, oil facilities, and the country’s economic projects .
The command explained in a statement that it dealt with the circulated information on this subject with great seriousness, and began forming a committee headed by an officer with a high rank and a group of members from all relevant parties from the technical and administrative departments to investigate and verify this information over the course of three days, since September 26, and it is still ongoing. There has been no confirmation or confirmation of the existence of such containers in Iraqi ports, or warehouses and docks therein, and that inspections and visits are continuing by this committee .
She pointed out that the evacuation of violating containers from the ports ended a long time ago to the (Hadama area) in Basra Governorate on the southern border, which is far from any facilities or residential areas, and does not pose any danger because it is in a desert area, and there are measures taken by the Ministry of Finance regarding many of these containers, including donating the materials they contain to ministries and entities that can benefit from them, and destroying containers that cannot be used according to the controls and instructions in force by the competent authorities in the Ministry of Higher Education and the Chemical Materials Treatment and Destruction Center, and receiving a portion of them by the Ministry of Industry .
The leadership pointed out that there are measures taken in this regard by the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers and relevant authorities for years to evacuate, deliver, or destroy all containers that pose a risk in their storage, or delay their receipt from the public and private sectors.
