An informed source in Salah al-Din reported, yesterday evening, Wednesday, that the family that was liquidated in the Abbasiya district of Samarra had previously assassinated their father last year.

The source explained, “The father of the family is the mukhtar of one of the residential areas in Abbasiya and he was assassinated last year, and today his family was liquidated in the absence of their father.”

He added, “The details of the crime are still under investigation.”

For his part, a statement from Salah al-Din Governorate explained that Governor Badr al-Fahal is communicating directly with the relevant higher official authorities, local security leaders in the region, and social authorities regarding the incident.

Al-Fahal stressed, according to the statement, that “in order to give the opportunity for a professional and accurate investigation to the committee formed in this regard, everyone must fully adhere to the necessary legal procedures and we call on the media and social media platforms not to be drawn into rumors and wait for the result of the investigation that will appear in the coming hours.”

Earlier, an Iraqi police source said, “Gunmen wearing military uniforms opened fire on six people from one family after storming their house in the Abbasiya area in Samarra, killing them on the spot, while the attackers fled to an unknown destination.”

According to the source, the dead are five siblings, four males and one female, in addition to their mother, indicating that the security forces are still continuing the search for the perpetrators, stressing that the crime is criminal.

Meanwhile, the spokesman for the Interior and the Security Media Cell, Brigadier General Miqdad Miri, announced in a statement, “Minister of Interior, Abdul Amir al-Shammari, directed the formation of an investigative committee headed by the Undersecretary for Police Affairs to find out the circumstances of the incident of the killing of an entire family in the Samarra district, adding that the committee has begun its work.”

In turn, the Security Media Cell said in a statement, “Important leads have been found in this incident, and a number of suspects have been arrested for their involvement and relationship with the incident, which preliminary information and data indicate is criminal.”

A security source indicated the arrest of three suspects involved in the family murder incident in Samarra, indicating that the arrest took place on the outskirts of the Samarra district.
